Signs Your Child May Need Feeding OT Support
Picky eating is common. Consider feeding-focused OT when food limitations, gagging, or mealtime stress are persistent and significant.
Very limited food variety
Your child may accept only a small set of preferred foods and strongly refuse new textures, colours, or brands.
Strong reactions to food textures or smells
Gagging, spitting, or distress around certain textures may make mealtimes tense for everyone.
Chewing or oral motor skills seem immature
Managing mixed textures, chewing thoroughly, or moving food efficiently in the mouth may be difficult.
Mealtimes regularly end in conflict
Long battles, grazing instead of meals, or refusal to sit at the table may be disrupting family routines.
Independent feeding skills are delayed
Using utensils, drinking from a cup, or self-feeding may require more support than expected for age.
