Child, teen and family therapy in Richmond Hill

Child therapy and play therapy

Families in Mill Pond and Bayview Hill often tell us the hard part is the morning: stomach aches before school, clinginess at drop-off, or a child who holds it together until the car ride home. Play therapy gives younger kids a way to show what they feel without a long talk first, and we keep parents close to the plan.

How child therapy works

Teen therapy and counselling

Westbrook and Jefferson teens are often stretched between school pressure, friends and a packed calendar. Teen counselling gives them a private hour for anxiety, low mood, school avoidance or conflict at home, while we still loop parents in at an age-appropriate pace.

Family therapy and parent coaching

Mill Pond and Oak Ridges parents often ask for help after evenings that start with a small request and end with everyone shut in separate rooms. Family sessions map who sets the rules, how siblings get pulled in, and what a softer restart looks like after a hard commute home.

Questions Richmond Hill parents ask

Where is your closest in-person therapy office for Richmond Hill families?
Our clinic is at 1137 Centre Street, Suite 204, Thornhill. Central Richmond Hill is about 15 to 20 minutes away; Oak Ridges is about 25 to 35 minutes. Common routes are Bathurst St or Yonge St, or Hwy 7 or Hwy 407. We also offer secure virtual sessions.
Do you work with kids and teens attending YRDSB or YCDSB schools in Richmond Hill?
Yes. We regularly see students from York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board schools in Mill Pond, Bayview Hill, Jefferson, Westbrook and Oak Ridges. When families ask, we can coordinate around IEPs and school-day timing.
How long does the drive from Richmond Hill take?
About 15 to 20 minutes from central Richmond Hill, and about 25 to 35 minutes from Oak Ridges, depending on traffic. Bathurst St, Yonge St, Hwy 7 and Hwy 407 are the routes families use most often.
Do you offer evening or Sunday appointments for Richmond Hill families?
Yes. We have evening availability Monday through Thursday, plus Sunday hours, so sessions can sit outside the school day. Friday hours are daytime only.
Do you offer virtual therapy for Richmond Hill children and teens?
Yes. Many Richmond Hill teens prefer video after school so the drive does not compete with homework and activities. Parent coaching also works well online. Younger children usually do better in the playroom in person.
Is therapy covered by my workplace benefits?
Most extended health plans that list psychotherapy or social work will cover our receipts. Confirm RP, RSW or OT coverage with your insurer. We do not bill the insurer for you.
How much does a session cost?
Current fees for 50-minute child, teen and parent sessions are on our fees page. Family therapy, couples counselling and occupational therapy are priced separately. You receive a receipt after every visit.
Do you direct-bill insurance?
We do not. You pay for the session, then submit our receipt to your benefits provider for reimbursement.
What ages do you see?
We see infants and toddlers (with their parents), children and teens, plus parents and caregivers. Under 6, sessions are play-based and parent-child, like Theraplay, child-centred play therapy and parent coaching.
What does the first session look like?
Begin with a free 15-minute call so we can hear your concerns. The first booked visit is an intake: history, strengths, goals and a clear recommendation for next steps.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No referral is required to start. A few insurance plans still ask for one before they reimburse, so skim your booklet if you are unsure.
Do I need a psychologist or a psychotherapist for my child?
Psychologists can diagnose and do formal assessments. Our registered psychotherapists, social workers and occupational therapists provide therapy and parent support. If an assessment may be needed, say so on the free call and we will outline options.
