Child, teen and family therapy in North York

Child therapy and play therapy

When a child from Willowdale or Lansing cannot put worry into words, play often says what talking cannot. We use play therapy and parent-child work for anxiety in kids, ADHD support, behaviour and big emotions, and school stress. Sessions meet your child where they already communicate.

How child therapy works

Teen therapy and counselling

Teens from Don Mills and Newtonbrook often need a private space before they will talk with a parent. Teen counselling covers anxiety, low mood, school avoidance and social pressure, with parents kept in the loop in ways that fit their age.

Family therapy and parent coaching

Sometimes the most useful hour is not the child's alone. Family therapy and parent coaching focus on routines, limits, co-parenting and rebuilding talk with a teen who has gone quiet. Parenting support stays available on its own when that fits better.

Questions North York parents ask

Do you work with children and teens who live in North York?
Yes. Many families we see live in Willowdale, Lansing, Newtonbrook and nearby North York neighbourhoods. You can come to our Thornhill clinic or book virtual sessions from home.
How long does the drive from North York take?
About 15 to 20 minutes from most North York neighbourhoods. We're on Centre Street, west of Bathurst. Bathurst St, Dufferin St or Hwy 407 (Bathurst or Dufferin exit) are the usual routes.
Can we get there by transit from Finch?
Yes. From Finch GO Bus Terminal, take YRT 77 or 88 to Promenade Terminal, about 1 km east of the clinic. From Pioneer Village station, take YRT 3. YRT 77 runs along Centre Street past the clinic except on Sundays.
Do you work with TDSB and TCDSB students in North York?
Yes. We regularly support students from Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board schools across Willowdale, Bayview Village, Don Mills and surrounding communities.
Do you offer virtual therapy for North York children and teens?
Yes. Secure video sessions work well for many teens and for parent coaching. For younger children, in-person play therapy is often a better fit. We help you choose.
Is therapy covered by my workplace benefits?
Many plans cover Registered Psychotherapists, Social Workers or Occupational Therapists. Check your policy. We provide detailed receipts for reimbursement.
How much does a session cost?
Individual child, teen and parent coaching sessions are listed on our fees page (50 minutes). Family, couples and occupational therapy have their own rates. We give a receipt after each session.
Do you direct-bill insurance?
No. We do not direct-bill. After each session we give you a receipt with the details most insurers need so you can submit the claim yourself.
What ages do you see?
We see infants and toddlers (with their parents), children and teens, plus parents and caregivers. Under 6, sessions are play-based and parent-child, like Theraplay, child-centred play therapy and parent coaching.
What does the first session look like?
We start with a free 15-minute call. The first session is usually an intake: we meet you and your child or teen, gather background and talk about goals. Then we build a plan together.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No, you can book directly. Some benefit plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so check your plan.
Do I need a psychologist or a psychotherapist for my child?
Psychologists can diagnose and do formal assessments. Our registered psychotherapists, social workers and occupational therapists provide therapy and parent support. If you think your child may need an assessment, mention it on your free call and we'll talk through options.
