Child, Teen and Family Therapy for Markham Families

When a Unionville morning starts with stomach aches before school, or a Markham Village teen only talks about marks, it helps to have a registered therapist who understands how academic pressure lands on kids here.

In-person sessions are at 1137 Centre Street, Suite 204, Thornhill: about 20 to 30 minutes from Unionville, longer from Cornell and east Markham. Virtual care is a strong fit when the drive does not work.

Child, teen and family therapy in Markham

Parent and young child playing with wooden blocks on the floor

Child therapy and play therapy

Unionville and Berczy Village families often describe a child who looks fine at school and unravels at homework time. Play therapy and parent-child work give younger kids a way to show worry, perfectionism and big feelings without a long interview first.

How child therapy works

Teen therapy and counselling

Cathedraltown and Markham Village teens carry a particular academic weight: competitive programs, tutoring stacks and early university talk. Teen counselling gives them a room where nobody is grading them, while parents stay looped in at an age-appropriate pace.

Family therapy and parent coaching

Unionville households often land here after report-card week or a tutoring stack that leaves no room to breathe. We sit with parents and kids together to reset expectations, share one calm script for homework battles, and decide when a teen needs their own hour instead of another family meeting.

Questions Markham parents ask

Where is your closest in-person therapy office for Markham families?
Our clinic is at 1137 Centre Street, Suite 204, Thornhill. Unionville is about 20 to 30 minutes west via Hwy 7 or Hwy 407. From Cornell, plan about 35 to 45 minutes, or book virtual if the drive is too long.
Do you support kids and teens from YRDSB and YCDSB schools in Markham?
Yes. We regularly work with students from York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board schools across Unionville, Markham Village, Berczy Village, Cathedraltown and nearby neighbourhoods.
How long does the drive from Markham take?
About 20 to 30 minutes from Unionville, and about 35 to 45 minutes from Cornell, depending on traffic. Hwy 7 and Hwy 407 are the routes families use most often.
Should Cornell and east Markham families come in person or meet online?
Many Cornell and east Markham households prefer secure video so therapy does not compete with tutoring and after-school programs. In-person still works when a younger child needs the playroom. We help you choose on the free call.
Do you offer virtual therapy for Markham children and teens?
Yes. Secure video works well for many teens and for parent coaching. Younger children often do better in person. Cornell families especially use virtual when the drive stretches past half an hour.
Is therapy covered by my workplace benefits?
Most extended health plans that list psychotherapy or social work will cover our receipts. Confirm RP, RSW or OT coverage with your insurer. We do not bill the insurer for you.
How much does a session cost?
Current fees for 50-minute child, teen and parent sessions are on our fees page. Family therapy, couples counselling and occupational therapy are priced separately. You receive a receipt after every visit.
Do you direct-bill insurance?
We do not. You pay for the session, then submit our receipt to your benefits provider for reimbursement.
What ages do you see?
We see infants and toddlers (with their parents), children and teens, plus parents and caregivers. Under 6, sessions are play-based and parent-child, like Theraplay, child-centred play therapy and parent coaching.
What does the first session look like?
Begin with a free 15-minute call so we can hear your concerns. The first booked visit is an intake: history, strengths, goals and a clear recommendation for next steps.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No referral is required to start. A few insurance plans still ask for one before they reimburse, so skim your booklet if you are unsure.
Do I need a psychologist or a psychotherapist for my child?
Psychologists can diagnose and do formal assessments. Our registered psychotherapists, social workers and occupational therapists provide therapy and parent support. If an assessment may be needed, say so on the free call and we will outline options.
