Child Psychologist: Assessments & Therapy (Thornhill, Vaughan)
We are building a psychological assessment service inside an established child and teen therapy practice, and we are looking for the psychologist who will shape it. You would run assessments from start to finish: choosing which tests fit each child, doing the testing, writing the report, and walking parents through what it means. Alongside that, a therapy caseload as small or as large as you want it.

About the role
Young Sprouts Therapy is a child, teen, and family practice in Thornhill serving Vaughan and York Region. Our team includes registered social workers, psychotherapists, and a pediatric occupational therapist, and families regularly ask us for assessments we cannot yet provide in-house.
That is the gap this role fills. Rather than joining an assessment assembly line, you would be the clinician who decides how this service runs: which tests we use, what our reports look like, how long a file should reasonably take, and what we will and will not take on. We would rather do fewer assessments well than promise turnaround times that produce thin reports.
The role suits a psychologist who wants clinical autonomy without the overhead of running a private practice. No lease, no bookkeeping, no chasing intake calls, and no marketing spend of your own.
What you would be doing
- Conduct psychoeducational, ADHD, autism, gifted, and learning disability assessments for children and adolescents, including intake, testing, scoring, and interpretation.
- Choose the right combination of tests for each referral question rather than working from a fixed template.
- Write clear, parent-readable reports with recommendations schools can actually implement, including language that supports IEP and IPRC discussions.
- Deliver feedback sessions that leave families understanding their child, not just their child's scores.
- Carry a therapy caseload with children and teens. Anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, behavioural challenges, and school refusal are our most common referrals.
- Consult with our social workers, psychotherapists, and occupational therapist on shared clients, and act as the clinical voice on assessment questions.
- Liaise with schools, physicians, and other providers where families have consented to it.
- Help shape the assessment service as it grows: intake criteria, waitlist policy, fee structure, and which services we add next.
Qualifications and requirements
- Registered in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario as a Psychologist (C.Psych.) or Psychological Associate (C.Psych.Assoc.). Candidates in supervised practice are welcome to apply; tell us your supervision arrangement.
- Declared competence in clinical, school, or clinical child psychology with the child and adolescent population.
- Demonstrated experience administering, scoring, and interpreting the standard child measures, for example the WISC-V, WPPSI-IV, WIAT-4, BASC-3, Conners-4, and ADOS-2.
- Strong assessment report writing, with a track record of recommendations that hold up in a school meeting.
- Comfortable delivering hard news to parents with warmth and clarity.
- Current professional liability insurance and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Able to work in person at our Thornhill office for testing sessions. Therapy and feedback sessions can be virtual.
- Familiar with PHIPA obligations and comfortable working in an EMR. We use Jane.
Compensation
$110–$165 per session · $1,200–$2,200 per assessment
- $110–$165 for each 50-minute therapy, consultation, or feedback session. Where you land depends on your registration category, your child assessment experience, and relevant approved training.
- $1,200–$2,200 for each completed assessment. A focused single-question assessment sits near the bottom of that range; a comprehensive psychoeducational, ADHD, or autism assessment with a full report and school consultation sits near the top.
- Paid monthly against completed sessions and submitted reports. Nothing is deducted for desk rent, admin, or platform fees. The rate you agree to is the rate you are paid.
We are happy to talk numbers on the first call. If the range does not work for your situation, tell us early rather than late.
