More than a collage

A new school year brings a lot at once.

We know the beginning of a new school year can bring excitement, pressure, and uncertainty all at the same time. Tweens ages 10 to 13 are invited to join a creative wellness workshop focused on creating a personal vision board for the year ahead. Participants will explore practical ways to build habits, reflect on their strengths and support systems, and create a visual reminder of how they want to feel, grow, and care for themselves during the school year.

The 90-minute experience

What they will do.

Participants explore their hopes for the upcoming school year and learn practical support tools. The focus is on reflection, personal growth, and building habits, not on creating a perfect finished product.

  1. 01 / Reflect

    Check in with the moment

Reflect on how they feel about returning to school and what they would like the year ahead to look like.

  2. 02 / Create

    Build a personal vision board

Create a personal vision board focused on their wellbeing, relationships, interests, and goals.

  3. 03 / Plan

Turn a dream into a goal

Learn how to turn a dream into a goal through small, consistent habits.

  4. 04 / Prepare

    Name the people who help

Build a goal journal with support systems and strategies for working through challenges.

  5. 05 / Keep

    Leave with something useful

Take home their vision board and goal journal tools to continue using throughout the school year.

Who it is for

For tweens ages 10 to 13 who want…

  • A creative and low-pressure way to prepare for the new school year.
  • Help managing excitement, uncertainty, pressure, and changes in routine.
  • Practical strategies for turning larger goals into realistic daily habits.
  • An opportunity to recognize their strengths and identify people who can support them.
  • A welcoming, therapist-guided space where sharing is optional and no artistic experience is needed.

What they take home

A reminder for the good weeks, and the hard ones.

Their vision board

A visual reminder of how they want to feel and grow this year, something to hang above a desk rather than file away.

A goal journal

Habit-building tools, named support systems, and strategies for the weeks when things get hard.

Two kinds of support

Who is leading it.

Reflection and wellbeing

Daniela Shulman

M.S.W., R.S.W.

A Registered Social Worker who works with children and teens every week, guiding the reflection, habit-building, and goal-setting parts of the workshop.

Creative direction

Veronica Taranova-Gomelsky

Artist, BDes

An artist and designer who leads the creative side, so every participant leaves with a board they are proud of, with no artistic experience needed.

Good to know

Questions parents usually ask.

Does my child need to be good at art?

No. The workshop is led by an artist precisely so that no one has to arrive with skills. The focus is on reflection and habit-building, not on producing a perfect finished product.

Will they have to share personal things out loud?

Sharing is always optional. Participants are invited into the conversation, never required, and a Registered Social Worker is in the room the whole time.

How big is the group?

Small on purpose. The workshop runs with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 participants, so both facilitators can give everyone real attention.

What should they bring?

Just themselves. All materials are provided, and they will go home with their vision board and goal journal tools.

Is this covered by insurance?

Many extended health and benefit plans cover this workshop under Registered Social Work. It is led by a Registered Social Worker (M.S.W., R.S.W.), and a receipt is provided on request so you can submit it under your plan. Coverage varies by plan, so please confirm with your insurer before the session.

What if my child doesn't know anyone there?

That's typical, and the group is kept intentionally small. The session is structured and therapist-guided from the first minute, so no one is left to work out the social part on their own.

Is this therapy?

It's a creative wellness workshop, not a therapy session. It's led by a Registered Social Worker and draws on the same practical tools we use with tweens in our Thornhill office.

Start the school year with a plan they made themselves.
