Child & Teen Therapist, MSW/RSW or RP (Thornhill, Vaughan)

We are looking for a therapist who is genuinely at home on the floor with a six-year-old and just as steady in a hard conversation with that child's parents. Play therapy, Theraplay, and parent coaching are central to how we work with younger children, and the caseload is yours to shape.

About the role

Young Sprouts Therapy is a child, teen, and family practice in Thornhill serving Vaughan and York Region. Most of our referrals are children aged 3 to 12 and teens aged 13 to 18, and the concerns families bring us most often are anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, behavioural challenges, and school refusal.

We are not looking for someone who does adult therapy and will happily take a few kids. We are looking for a therapist whose actual craft is this age group: someone who reaches for play rather than conversation when a child cannot yet put words to it, and who treats parents as part of the work rather than as people who drop off and pick up.

The caseload is yours to shape. If you want to work almost entirely with young children through play, we can build that. If you want a mix of teens, parent coaching, and family sessions, we can build that too.

What you would be doing

  • Provide individual therapy to children and teens using developmentally matched approaches, including play-based work with younger children.
  • Run parent coaching sessions and bring parents into their child's treatment, including the conversations parents find hard to hear.
  • Use attachment-based work such as Theraplay where the parent and child relationship is the thing that needs repair.
  • Complete intakes, treatment plans, and progress notes in Jane within our documentation timelines.
  • Collaborate with our psychologist, occupational therapist, and the rest of the clinical team on shared clients.
  • Communicate with schools, physicians, and other providers where families have consented to it.
  • Hold a consistent weekly schedule that families can rely on, including some after-school hours.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as a Registered Social Worker with an MSW, or with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario as a Registered Psychotherapist.
  • Direct clinical experience with children and adolescents, not adults only.
  • Comfortable working through play, movement, and activity rather than relying on talk alone.
  • Confident with parents: able to coach, teach, and deliver difficult feedback while keeping them on side.
  • Current professional liability insurance and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Able to work in person at our Thornhill office. Teen and parent sessions can be virtual.
  • Familiar with PHIPA obligations and comfortable working in an EMR. We use Jane.

Compensation

$90–$110 per 50-minute session

  • $90–$110 for each 50-minute session, whether that is individual therapy with a child or teen, a parent coaching session, or a family session.
  • Where you land in that range depends on your registration, your experience with this age group, and relevant approved training such as play therapy, Theraplay, or structured parent coaching.
  • Paid monthly against completed sessions. Nothing is deducted for desk rent, admin, or platform fees. The rate you agree to is the rate you are paid.

We are happy to talk numbers on the first call. If the range does not work for your situation, tell us early rather than late.

What the clinic provides

  • A steady referral stream, so your calendar fills without you having to chase it.
  • Intake, scheduling, billing, insurance receipts, and follow-up handled by our admin team.
  • A furnished therapy room at 1137 Centre Street, Thornhill, with a supply of play therapy materials on hand and free on-site parking. You are welcome to bring your own materials as well.
  • Marketing, website, and search presence, so you do not need to build a practice or a personal brand to keep your calendar full.
  • A collaborative team of child clinicians for consultation, including a psychologist and a pediatric occupational therapist.
  • Genuine schedule control. You set your availability and your caseload size.

Our hiring process

We aim to move from first email to offer within three weeks. You will hear back either way.

  1. Send us your CV

Email your CV and a short note about the ages and presenting concerns you most enjoy working with. A formal cover letter is not required.

  2. Intro call (20 minutes)

A no-pressure conversation about what you are looking for, the caseload we can offer, and whether the numbers work for both of us.

  3. Clinical conversation (60 minutes)

A deeper discussion with our clinical lead about how you work with children and parents. Bring a case you found difficult; we are more interested in how you think than in a polished answer.

  4. References and registration check

Two professional references, plus verification of your OCSWSSW or CRPO registration and insurance.

  5. Offer and onboarding

We agree on rates, availability, and a start date, then set up your EMR access, room schedule, and first referrals.

How to apply
